HOME Services—
Helping Others Make the Effort (HOME) is working to break the cycle of homelessness by providing housing and supportive services to homeless families. HOME offers several program options, dependent on the individual family’s need and housing urgency.
HOMELite— HOMELite is the entry point to all of HOME’s programs. It includes outreach, intake, information and referral, and case management. When a family first contacts HOME for services, a five to ten minute screening is used to determine if the family qualifies for HOME services or needs a referral to another agency. If a family can be helped by HOME, an appointment will be set for them to come to the office for a more in-depth assessment of needs. HOMELite provides assistance with making application for food stamps, case management, and life skills education.
HOME Residential— HOME’s residential campus is transitional housing (usually 6-12 months) for single homeless moms who are working to get back on their feet. The program provides families with a place to stay, intensive case management, and life skills education. Families participating in this program pay $100 per month and are also required to put a portion of their earnings into savings. The program does not operate as an emergency shelter and cannot do same day admissions. Basic eligibility criteria include the following: must be a single mom with custody of all minor children, must be employed or employable, and must be strongly motivated to become self-sufficient. A family’s stay at the campus is contingent on their participation in program activities and progress towards case plan goals.
HOMEBase— This program offers rental assistance for up to two years in a community setting. Families can be single or dual parent, must have employment income, and must be reasonably close to self-sufficiency. Rental assistance is available to homeless families only (i.e. it cannot be used to prevent eviction or foreclosure in a current unit). Preference is given to families who are currently participating in HOMELite or our residential program.
